Deveron Festival Orchestra

Mozart : Magic Flute Overture
Weber : Clarinet Concerto no.2 in E-flat major
Beethoven : Symphony no.5 in C minor

Emma Johnson MBE (clarinet)
conducted by Gareth John

We are delighted to welcome Emma Johnson to the Deveron Festival. Ms Johnson is one of the few clarinetists to have established a busy international career as a soloist performing, literally, throughout the world and regularly playing to sold-out concert halls.

A winner of the BBC Young Musician of the Year Competition in 1984, she was awarded an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours list in 1996 and has even appeared on TV programmes as diverse as Wogan and Jim’ll Fix It. Emma Johnson’s virtuosic playing of Weber’s energetic and operatic concerto will be a highlight of this year’s Festival and definitely NOT to be missed!

With “high-powered playing from the superb Deveron Festival Orchestra” (Glasgow Herald), Beethoven’s famous 5th Symphony inspires screened images from leading NE artists – Sue Arber, Ingeborg Bodzioch, and David & Jane Pettigrew. Our four acclaimed artists have embarked on a journey visualising the emotions running through Beethoven’s dramatic symphony as the music takes us on a journey from darkness into the light.

Before moving to Scotland, Sue Arber (www.suearber.co.uk) worked as a photographer in the music business, photographing most major rock bands for the music press and record companies. Ingeborg Bodzioch (01339 889193) has had a number of highly-acclaimed exhibitions in the UK and USA as well as in her native Norway. Jane and David Pettigrew (Masterpiece Art Studio www.masterpieceartstudio.com) are both former post-graduate students of Aberdeen's Grays School of Art and live and work in converted former fishing cottages in Portlethen.
